Last winter, I told Jord that one of my goals for 2017 is to travel somewhere every single month. He pretty much laughed at me because that is quite an ambitious goal unless travel is a large part of your job. And that point, it definitely wasn’t very common for me to travel as a part of my my blog.
Being that I work for myself and mostly in my kitchen testing recipes, I don’t exactly leave my home all that often. In fact there are days I don’t even put on a real bra or switch out of gym/recipe testing clothes, let alone leave the state.
But some how my goal of traveling each month has been accomplished so far between work + play. I am so grateful that I have been able to amp up my travel schedule, visit new places, see friends, relax with my family and immerse myself in different communities other than what I am used to. Visiting cities like Austin, Maui, Phoenix, Portland and LA a few times have been such an amazing experience to see different parts of the country.
I am definitely not the type of person who comes underprepared when it comes to packing clothes and such for trips, so as you can imagine I do pack a handful of healthy snacks and random items to bring along with me. I don’t go overboard when it comes to the food, especially if I am traveling in the US. But I do like to bring a few items with me each time I travel that make me feel a bit more at ease on the road and ensure I am continuing to feel my best.
Below is a list + some additional information about what items I bring for you to keep in mind for your next trip or getaway. The list definitely various based off the location but I am pretty consistent with these gems.
I personally need to pack snacks when I travel. It gives me a sense of ease and to be honest, I’m not the type of person who can go more than a few hours without food. I enjoy having some of my favorites with my on the road that help fuel me and are easy to travel with.
Typically bars are the most common snack I pack. They fit so easily into your carry-on or suitcase and are my go-to fuel when I am on the road. I especially love to bring RXBARs with me. They are so convenient to travel since they don’t require any refrigeration either. They are a whole food protein bar that is actually made with simple ingredients like fruit and nuts. Plus each bar is dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free and has NO added sugar. There’s no brown rice syrup or cane sugar added, which I love. They use dried fruits to sweeten them. My personal favs are the Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip (as you can see in the photos!). Jord loves the Chocolate Sea Salt! They satisfy my mid-day chocolate cravings after lunch and I also break them up and add with some yogurt for a quick and easy breakfast. My mom and dad recently went on a two week trip to Europe and could not have been more thankful to have some RXBARs in their bags! Perfect for the long flights, in between meal snack and the flavassss, ugh just so good!
Dark chocolate is always in my bag as well (and yes sometimes it melts in transit… oops!) for some after dinner dessert just incase there isn’t anything I want to eat where I am. Ya girl needs her dessert. I usually bring this one (code RACHL for free chocolate too with order!).
True life I invested in one of those vitamin organizers that you likely see elderly people storing their vitamins in. But seriously it helps me track my vitamin and supplement take each day so I don’t get confused. I just bring my daily ones I take and make sure to keep them next to where I sleep that way I won’t forget. Probiotics are a must-have for me when traveling.
Heck to the YES! All about adding some collagen peptides to my morning tea or lemon water when traveling. It dissolves so easily into a hot beverage and you can bring these packets along making it so easy to carry around with you!
I always pack protein powder but TBH I don’t always use it. When we were in Maui I did daily since I would go to the acai bowl places and ask them to add to my smoothie bowls. I also do when we are traveling to places that have smoothie bars like in LA etc. I love bringing these protein packets (code RACHL for 20% off). It is awesome to keep with you though incase you find a smoothie places and want to make it a bit more satisfying. I have never had any smoothie place reject adding my own protein when ordering!
Tea is a must in my book. I am pretty picky with what tea I drink so I like to keep a handful of different herbal ones in my bag. Plus hydration when traveling is so key for my digestion so the more things I have to drink, the better!
I will eventually write a more in-depth blog post about my whole skincare routine and what I use, but I know traveling can have a huge impact on our skin so I wanted to include some of my go-to’s here. I obviously bring deodorant (code RACHL for free lip balm with order) as well has facial cleansing wipes, my matcha stick, chia facial oil and face wash. I also tried those under eye masks, which are fun to use, but I have no idea if they actually work. Would love to hear your thoughts if you use them and have seen results!
Easy, simple and cohesive list for you guys! Obviously take this info and make it work for YOU and your travel routine but these are a few of my go-to’s.
Thank you RXBAR for sponsoring this post. It means so much to me to work with brands that I love and who support rachLmansfield!
