CHEEZ ITS! Can I please get a round of applause for one of the great snacks of all kind?!?!

These were a staple for me growing up. We always had Cheez-Its in the house. My personal favorite were the white cheddar ones, but I’m not biased when it comes to salty cheesy crunchy crackers. And this homemade version is going to be your new go-to recipe! You will love them, your kids will love them. And I can promise they’ll come on the snack rotation. Because now my kids ask for them all the time.

I love that this version is gluten-free, grain-free and you can use cheddar cheese or even a dairy-free cheese if you prefer!

I cannot wait to hear what you think of this!! Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram and Tiktok if you try it.

What ingredients you need to make gluten-free Cheez-Its:

  • Almond flour – I haven’t used another flour here but oat flour or spelt would work well too
  • Garlic powder – I don’t recommend using fresh garlic here
  • Shredded cheddar cheese – you could use a dairy-free cheese too if you prefer or even nutritional yeast
  • Tapioca flour – or use arrowroot flour instead
  • Avocado oil – or use olive oil instead

How to make copycat Cheez-Its at home:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. In a food processor, combine almond flour, salt, garlic, cheese and tapioca and pulse until combined
  3. Add avocado oil and pulse a few times until dough is crumbly
  4. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, blending until the dough comes together in a ball (I used about 3 tablespoons)
  5. Roll out the dough on lightly floured surface to make a large rectangle about 1/8 inch thick
  6. Slice dough into 1-inch squares and transfer to baking sheet (leaving 1/2 inch a part between)
  7. Bake until crackers are golden brown and crisp, about 15 minutes. Allow them to cool a bit on the baking sheet before serving

FAQs on making your own cheddar cheese crackers:

  • What is a Cheez-It? They are delicious salty cheese crackers that make me feel like I am a kid again!! I used to love these as a child and now I love making my own homemade ones that are healthier and so tasty!
  • Can you use vegan cheese in these? Absolutely! Use regular cheddar cheese, dariry-free anything you want. You can even use nutritional yeast
  • Are these good for kids to eat? My kids are OBSESSED with these crackers. They ask for them all the time. So we usually make them every couple of weeks
