If you’ve been waiting for me to give you yet another reason to eat cottage cheese… hi, hello, I have arrived.

These Peanut Butter Cup Cottage Cheese Cups are basically the easiest little high-protein dessert/snack situation you can make. And the best part? You need just a handful of ingredients, one little cup of cottage cheese, and about five minutes of actual effort.

I’m making these with the new Breakstone’s Protein Cottage Cheese Cups, which are perfect for this because everything happens right in the individual cup. No blender. No food processor. No dirty bowl situation. We love a recipe that keeps the dishwasher out of the conversation.

The concept is ridiculously simple: sweeten the cottage cheese with a little maple syrup or honey, mix in peanut butter, add another layer of peanut butter on top, then finish it with melted chocolate and flaky sea salt. Pop it in the fridge until the chocolate sets and you have a little cottage cheese peanut butter cup that you can literally crack into with a spoon.

And yes, it tastes like a peanut butter cup. Which is kind of the whole point.

Why You’ll Love These Peanut Butter Cup Cottage Cheese Cups

There are a few reasons this snack has quickly become one of my favorite little fridge treats.

First, they’re ridiculously easy. Everything gets made directly in the cottage cheese cup. You don’t need to prep anything ahead of time, and you don’t need a million ingredients.

They’re also protein-packed. Cottage cheese is one of those ingredients I always like having around because it’s such an easy way to add protein to snacks and meals. And using a protein cottage cheese cup makes this even more snack-worthy.

The peanut butter + chocolate situation is elite. Creamy peanut butter, sweet cottage cheese, a crisp chocolate shell, and a little flaky salt on top? Come on.

And finally, they’re customizable. You can use maple syrup or honey, milk chocolate or dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter or your favorite nut or seed butter. You really can’t mess this one up.

What You Need

Individual Cottage Cheese Cup

This is the base of the recipe and what makes the whole thing so easy. Because you’re working with an individual cottage cheese cup, you can mix everything right inside it and have a single-serving snack ready to go.

Peanut Butter

You need 2 tablespoons total. One tablespoon gets mixed into the cottage cheese and the other becomes a layer right on top.

That second layer is important. It gives you that unmistakable peanut butter cup moment when you crack through the chocolate.

I recommend creamy peanut butter here because it mixes into the cottage cheese easily and gives you that smooth, classic peanut butter cup texture.

Maple Syrup or Honey

A little drizzle of maple syrup or honey adds just enough sweetness to the cottage cheese. I like using 1–2 teaspoons, depending on how sweet you want your cup to be.

Start with one teaspoon, taste it, and add more if you want.

Chocolate

This is where things get really good.

You’ll melt about 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips or chopped chocolate and drizzle it right over the peanut butter layer. Once it chills, the chocolate hardens into a thin shell that you get to crack through with your spoon.

Honestly, this is the fun part.

Flaky Sea Salt

Technically optional. Emotionally? I strongly recommend it.

That tiny sprinkle of flaky sea salt makes the chocolate and peanut butter taste even more like an actual peanut butter cup.

How to Make Peanut Butter Cup Cottage Cheese Cups

The beauty of this recipe is that there are basically no steps.

1. Sweeten the cottage cheese

Open your cottage cheese cup and add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter along with 1–2 teaspoons of maple syrup or honey.

Mix everything together until the peanut butter is incorporated and the cottage cheese is nice and creamy.

You can taste it here and decide if you want a little more sweetness. This is your snack, friends. We make the rules.

2. Add another layer of peanut butter

Now take the remaining tablespoon of peanut butter and spread it evenly over the top.

This creates that delicious peanut butter layer that sits underneath the chocolate.

3. Melt your chocolate

Add your chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it in 15-second intervals, stirring between each one, until smooth and melted.

Don’t overdo it. Chocolate can go from beautifully melted to weirdly seized very quickly, so short intervals are your friend.

4. Make the chocolate shell

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the peanut butter layer and gently spread it around if needed so the top is covered.

Then add a little flaky sea salt.

5. Chill

Pop the cup into the refrigerator for about 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set.

And then comes the best part…

6. Crack and eat

Grab a spoon and crack through that chocolate shell.

You’ll get the creamy cottage cheese and peanut butter underneath with that little snap of chocolate on top.

It’s giving homemade peanut butter cup. Except we’re calling it breakfast/snack/dessert because honestly, I don’t make the rules.

A Few Tips for the Best Cottage Cheese Cups

Use creamy peanut butter. It will be much easier to mix into the cottage cheese and spread over the top.

Don’t skip the chill time. The chocolate needs a little time in the refrigerator to firm up. It only takes about 15–20 minutes, so it’s not a huge commitment.

Adjust the sweetness. I personally love the balance of slightly sweet cottage cheese with salty peanut butter and chocolate. But if you’re making this as more of a dessert, add the full 2 teaspoons of maple syrup or honey.

Go big on the flaky salt. Okay, not too big. But a little sprinkle really makes all of the flavors pop.

Why Cottage Cheese Works So Well Here

I know cottage cheese has had a major moment over the last few years, and honestly, I’m not mad about it.

It’s such a versatile ingredient because it can go sweet or savory, and it adds a creamy texture and protein to so many different recipes.

And if you’re someone who doesn’t necessarily love eating cottage cheese straight from the container, turning it into something that tastes like a peanut butter cup is a pretty excellent entry point.

You don’t need to make it complicated. You don’t need to blend it until it’s completely smooth. You can just mix it with a few ingredients you probably already have in your pantry and turn it into something that feels like a treat.

That’s my favorite kind of recipe.

Make These Ahead

These are also a great little make-ahead snack.

You can prepare the cup, add the chocolate, and keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat it. They’re especially great when you know you’re going to want something sweet later but don’t want to find yourself standing in front of the pantry eating chocolate chips straight from the bag.

Not that I’ve ever done that.

You can also make a few at once if you’re prepping snacks for the week. Just keep them covered and refrigerated until you’re ready to enjoy them.

More Ways to Customize Them

Once you have the basic formula down, there are so many ways you can play around with these.

Try dark chocolate for a richer, less-sweet version.

Use almond butter or sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter if that’s more your thing.

Add a tiny sprinkle of mini chocolate chips into the cottage cheese mixture for even more chocolate flavor.

Or add a little cinnamon to the peanut butter and cottage cheese mixture for a cozy twist.

You could even top the chocolate with a few crushed peanuts for extra crunch.

But honestly? The original is pretty hard to beat.

The Bottom Line

I love recipes like this because they prove that eating something nourishing doesn’t have to mean eating something boring.

You’ve got creamy cottage cheese, peanut butter, a little maple syrup or honey, chocolate, and flaky sea salt. That’s it.

It takes minutes to make, there’s virtually no cleanup, and the end result feels like a little peanut butter cup hiding in your refrigerator.

So the next time you’re craving something sweet, grab a Breakstone’s Protein Cottage Cheese Cup, a spoonful of peanut butter, and some chocolate.

Mix. Layer. Drizzle. Chill.

Then crack that chocolate shell and dig in.

Easy, protein-packed, peanut butter cup happiness. I’m very into it.
