I feel like an amateur that I haven’t been making mac and cheese like this for years. With this new method, you don’t have to strain the noodles when they’re ready. You use both water and non-dairy milk and you toss in a SLICE of cheese too. Which is seriously a game changer for creaminess and flavor. I swear once you try mac and cheese this way, you will forever be obsessed with this.
And you can use any mac and cheese you want. Just make sure it is 6 ounces!
What you need for this boxed mac and cheese hack:
- 6-ounce box mac and cheese
- Water
- Non-dairy milk
- Butter or ghee
- Organic cheddar cheese
- Pinch of sea salt and black pepper to taste
How to make this extra creamy one pot mac and cheese:
- In a medium pot, add the noodles, water, milk and butter and bring to a boil
- Add in the powdered cheese packet from the box and simmer for about 8 minutes, stirring every minute or so
- After 8 minutes, season with salt and pepper to taste and add in the piece of cheese and mix well and enjoy while warm!

When you say “non-dairy milk,” do you mean powdered milk? I tried something similar by not draining all of the cooking water and I thought it was pretty good. I plan to try your version as soon as I have the answer to my question.

nope just means any milk that’s not cow’s milk. so almond, cashew, oat etc.! or use dairy if you prefer
