This 10-minute Brown Butter Sage Pasta is such a delicious and cozy comfort dish to make! Made with just 4 ingredients and can be made gluten-free.

This is THE cozy night pasta dish to make fam. Oh my gosh – let me tell you! The sage, brown butter, nutmeg and parmesan flavor combination is out of this world. And one that I would like to eat every single day.

Brown butter sage pasta is one of those meals that sounds 100x fancier then it actually is. You only need 4 ingredients to make this and it comes together in just 10 minutes. You can make it after a long day of chasing your kids, after work, whenever. I love this for a cozy date night-in kind of meal too. And you can also add in some extra protein like sausage and mushrooms for veggies if you want. Tuscan kale also is delicious in this pasta recipe.

My kids were obsessed with this pasta dish. I guess you can say it is a modern take on the buttered pasta we had growing up!

Tip: make this when you are craving a comfort gourmet kind of meal but only have 10 minutes to make dinner!

What ingredients you need to make brown butter sage pasta:

  • Gluten-free pasta of choice – any pasta shape works for this. Use your favorite!
  • Butter – if you prefer using a vegan butter, feel free! Just make sure it is one that can caramelize and brown well
  • Sage leaves –  we use the fresh sage from our garden but dried sage can also work well too!
  • Grated parmesan cheese – if you prefer using dairy-free parm, you can as well! I love using a fresh block of parmesan cheese and grating it
  • Nutmeg – the sage and brown butter combo with nutmeg is too die for!

How to make brown butter sage pasta:

  1. Cook pasta according to instructions (don’t forget to save 1 cup of the pasta water before straining)
  2. Add butter to a large skillet and melt
  3. Add in the sage leaves and brown the butter and crisp the sage for about 8 minutes on medium/low heat
  4. Remove skillet from heat then add in cooked pasta, 1/2 cup of the water, cheese and nutmeg and mix all together (if too thick – add more pasta water)
  5. Serve while warm!

Tips for success making this sage pasta:

  • I love using fresh sage in this dish! But if you only have dried, that works well too.
  • I haven’t tested a vegan butter instead of actual butter. But if you have a go-to vegan butter that browns well and want to make this dairy-free, use it and a df cheese as well!
  • This dish is one of my favorites to eat fresh out of the pot, but it does reheat well too! Just add a splash of water to the pasta and reheat on stovetop or microwave, whichever you prefer
  • If you want to add some extra veggies or protein to this, feel free. Sausage and mushrooms are two of my favorites to add to the dish!
