This Honey Garlic Chicken is so easy to make and a family favorite! It is a simple gluten-free weeknight dinner recipe that the whole family will love and you can pair it with your favorite sides.
If you are in the mood to switch things for dinner – you 100% have to try this crispy honey garlic chicken recipe! It is absolutely delicious, has the best crunch to it and it is oven-baked then coated with a dreamy honey garlic sauce.
This recipe has been a hit with my family and we have already made it a handful of times. My kids love it, my husband and I love it. And it hits the spot when you want to make something a bit more flavorful than your boring old chicken recipe.
When it comes to meats, we are all about spices, sauces and adding new flavors to switch things up. This honey sauce adds the perfect sweetness and caramelizes the chicken a bit on top of the crisp of the breading. And the garlicky kick to it with the honey hits the spot.
This recipe just works so well together. Honey is a very underrated ingredient for meat and it goes with the flavors here perfectly.
What ingredients are in crispy honey garlic chicken:
Crispy chicken:
- Chicken breasts – cut into 1-inch squares or you can also use boneless skinless chicken thighs
- Almond flour – I haven’t used another flour but I do think a gluten-free flour or all purpose flour can work well too
- Paprika, garlic powder and sea salt and black pepper
- Egg – whisked to dip each piece of chicken into before coating with breadcrumbs. I haven’t tested an egg sub here
- Gluten-free breadcrumbs – or if not gluten-free use any breadcrumbs. You can slo crush up some crackers on top
Honey garlic sauce:
- Olive oil – or use avocado oil if you prefer
- Chopped garlic cloves – or use garlic powder
- Honey – I usually use a raw honey in this recipe for its nutritional benefits
- Rice vinegar – this adds some acidity to the sauce and great flavor
- Coconut aminos – I use this instead of a soy sauce but you can also use soy sauce if you prefer
How to make crispy chicken in a honey garlic sauce:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and add a oven-safe cooling rack to a baking sheet
- Add the chicken to a large ziplock bag and toss with flour and spices
- Then dip a piece of chicken into the egg followed by the breadcrumbs and add to baking sheet and repeat for remaining chicken
- Cook in oven for about 15 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked (should be 165 degrees F or when it cut it open there will be no pink!)
- While chicken cooks, whisk together the honey garlic sauce ingredients then toss chicken in a large bowl with sauce and serve warm with desired sides
FAQs on making crispy honey chicken:
- If you prefer chicken thighs over breasts, you can use them too! Just make sure they are all skinless and boneless as well. We sometimes dod a mix of chicken breasts and thighs
- You can serve this chicken with anything you want. I love having it with my Creamy Coconut Rice or some soba noodles or quinoa. You can also serve it over a salad too which is a great lighter meal
- My kids love having these as “tacos” with tortillas and cheese as well with some cucumbers and carrots
- If you want to make this honey garlic chicken with a kick, just add some hot sauce or sriracha to the sauce too!
