These homemade watermelon gummies are absolutely delicious. Made with fresh fruit, lemon and gelatin and they are incredible to snack on for all candy lovers. No artificial colorings or ingredients.
If you love gummies – these are going to be on your new go-to recipes. I love sour gummies and this recipe is sweet, sour and incredibly easy to make at home. They’re so yummy and they remind me of the classic bag of gummies I always used to to eat in college.
These sour patch copycats are of course different than the real thing. But they are still so tasty! They are sweeter and you can coat them in sugar if you want the full effect texture wise. But because of the lemon juice added to the watermelon, it give the gummies a little tartness to them. They have a sour aftertaste of sorts but no artificial ingredients, flavorings or anything.
I am so excited for you guys to try these! They are so yummy, easy to make and you only need 3 ingredients to prepare them.
What 3 ingredients you need to make watermelon candy:
- Watermelon – cut into chunks or you can use 2 cups of watermelon juice if preferred
- Grass-fed gelatin – I do not have a sub here! This is needed for the gummy consistency
- Freshly squeeze lemon juice – Usually 3-4 lemons are needed debating on the size
How to make watermelon gummies:
- First add the fresh watermelon and lemon juice to a blender and blend until liquid
- Strain the blended watermelon through a fine mesh strainer (discarding the pulp)
- Divide the juice by adding half to a small saucepan and the other half to a large bowl
- Add the grass fed gelatin to the juice in the bowl by sprinkling it over the surface
- Let it sit for a few minutes so that it dissolves into the juice (it will solidify)
- Gently heat the watermelon juice in the saucepan just to warm it (do not bring it to a boil or simmer)
- Add the gelatin & juice mixture to the rest of the juice in the saucepan
- Whisk or stir to combine until the liquid is smooth
- Pour the gelatin mixture into molds or a refrigerator safe pan
- Chill until set, about 30 minutes and then either remove the gelatin from the mold or slice it into pieces
- Coat in some sugar if desired (I usually don’t!)
- Can be stored at room temperature but I love them cold!
FAQs and tips making watermelon gummies:
- These aren’t sweet – what can I do? Add sweetener to them. You can use honey or maple syrup if you want these a bit sweeter.
- I don’t want to coat them in sugar, do I have to? Nope! I usually don’t but if you want the texture of a classic sour gummy, coat them in some sugar.
- How long do these stay good for? About 1 week in the fridge or 3-5 days at room temperature. I love having them cold over room temp.

Your watermelon needs to be SUPER flavorful and ripe otherwise these are almost flavorless. Mine was ripe and it was still just meh. I love the idea though! Maybe a cantaloupe, mango and lime gummy next time I try, hmmmm
Rachel
aw!! yeah it depends on the watermelon, great point! we bought one to eat the other day and it tasted like nothing. so if your watermelon isn’t sweet enough, these won’t be good.
