The Most Cheesy French Onion Soup Pizza made with just 5 key ingredients for a delicious pizza twist on the classic soup recipe.
OK OK guys hello!!!!! This is the most delicious pizza recipe ever. Or really delicious recipe in general now that I am thinking about it.
We can thank my crazy breastfeeding cravings (yes that is a thing over here) for this idea. It is the most insane flavor combination. And as someone who loves caramelized onions and a ll things white pizza – I am in actual heaven when I eat this pizza.
Call me crazy but I don’t even love french onion soup usually. This pizza recipe though may convert me over because I don’t think there is something I won’t eat with this flavor combination now. We have already made this pizza recipe twice in 2 weeks. That is how much we are obsessing over it. And I may sound weird, but it tastes kicka$$ cold too. Or you can heat it on the skillet or in the oven like a civilized human. I go full on savage mode and have no patience when it comes to leftovers.
If you guys do make this recipe and enjoy it – let us know what you think! I hope you love it as much as we do.
What ingredients you need to make French Onion Soup Pizza:
- Pizza crust of choice (I used the organic frozen on from Trader Joe’s!)
- Small sweet onions, sliced thinly
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Coconut sugar
- Fresh mozzarella, sliced or shredded
- Shredded gruyere cheese
- Fresh thyme for garnish and red pepper flakes if desired
How to make this insanely easy and delicious pizza recipe:
- Warm oil over a large skillet and add onions and cook for about 3 minutes on medium-high
- Cover onions and simmer for 10 minutes (stirring every few minutes)
- Add in the sugar and mix again and cook for a couple more minutes or until the onions are caramelized to your liking
- Meanwhile preheat oven to 425 degrees and drizzle some oil on pizza crust
- Sprinkle the mozzarella across the crust then distribute the onions and sprinkle the gruyere on top followed by the thyme
- Bake in oven for 10 minutes or so then you can broil for a minute or two if you want the cheese to bubble/crisp a bit
- Slice and enjoy while warm!
