Let's make 2-ingredient Chia Seed Jam in just 15 minutes! This jam has no added sugar and it is perfect to spread on toast, add to oatmeal or anything you are craving!

Making jam at home is SO easy and 100x healthier than the ones you find at the store. Usually jams are filled with added sugars and fruit concentrates and who knows if there is even real fruit in it. Plus I also use organic berries to make them and it’s pretty rare to find an organic no sugar added jam at the store. And after you make this just once, you will be hooked!

This healthy jam recipe is packed with nutrients from the berries and chia seeds! Chia seeds help thicken the jam a bit and absorb the excess moisture from the fruit to make this super spreadable and perfect to spread on top of sandwiches, muffins or mixed into yogurt and oatmeal bowls.

If you are craving a jam that is sweeter than this, you can absolutely add some maple syrup or honey too. I personally find this sweet enough with the berries, but you can absolutely sweeten it to your liking. The chia seeds are loaded with healthy fats and fiber so when paired with berries, it won’t spike your blood sugar as much either.

What ingredients are in Chia Seed Jam:

  • Fresh or frozen berries – I use a mix of blueberries and raspberries usually but any berries work well
  • Filtered water
  • Chia seeds

How to make your how healthy jam:

  1. Add the washed blueberries to a medium saucepan and warm over medium heat
  2. Next add the water to the saucepan and stir the berries and water as they start to soften
  3. Begin mashing them to make the jam (leave some chunks of berries)
  4. Once the mixture starts to look more liquid-y, turn the heat down to low and add in the chia seeds and stir them into the jam
  5. Remove from heat and let the jam sit for a few minutes so it begins to thicken
  6. Store in the fridge for up to a week in an airtight container

How do chia seeds thicken the jam? Can you taste them?

Chia seeds absorb the moisture of the fruit and thicken the jam to make it spreadable. They don’t have a taste either and I don’t get them stuck in my teeth as easily in jam. Usually when I sprinkle them on something they do, but not when they are in a recipe like this jam.

What fruit works best in this jam recipe?

You can use fresh or frozen fruit in this recipe! I use whatever I have on hand to make it.

What is the best way to store chia seed jam?

Add to a mason jar or airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 10 days! I personally don’t freeze this but we fly threw it so fast. My kids absolutely love it.

What are some things to add chia seed jam to?

Best tips for success:

  • You can use fresh or frozen fruit here. They both work well! So whatever is more feasible for you
  • Sweet the jam to your taste or leave it naturally sweetened. Maple syrup or honey works best for sweetness options
  • Use this jam on toast, in yogurt bowls, oatmeal oatmeals, PB&J, anything you want!
  • Keep it in the fridge for up to 10 days
