This Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar is a perfect dish for those days when you crave something flavorful, satisfying, and packed with fresh wholesome ingredients.

This dish is not only visually appealing, but also incredibly satisfying with its blend of textures and flavors. Each bite offers a combination of yummy hummus, tangy yogurt, crunchy veggies, and the savory taste of feta and olives.

All the layers in this Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar blend together perfectly! I like making homemade hummus for the base layer but you can totally use your favorite store bought brand. The next yogurt layer adds a creamy texture and a hint of tanginess to balance out the flavors (think fresh tzatziki). The za’atar in this yogurt layer is a delightful blend of herbs giving the dish a distinct Mediterranean flair. The lemon adds a hint of acidity and a zesty kick. The crisp freshness of cucumber and the sweet juiciness of cherry tomatoes complement the creamy yogurt and hummus base. The briny saltiness of the feta and olives adds depth and richness to each bite.

This Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar is great for literally any meal! You can enjoy it for a quick lunch with some veggies or pita, as a light dinner with some grilled chicken or Mediterranean meatballs, or as a shareable appetizer at your next gathering.

I love preparing this Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar as an appetizer when hosting family and friends because it is not only vibrant in color, but also flavor. I often serve it with my gluten-free Greek yogurt tortillas or pita alongside a colorful assortment of fresh veggies for dipping. Carrots and peppers add even more color to the dish!

I hope you enjoy making this Mediterranean inspired dish as much as I do! It’s so easy to make and even your little ones can easily help assemble each layer! Let me know what you think and your favorite way to enjoy it!

What ingredients you need to make this Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar:

  • Hummus- you can use store bought or make it yourself
  • Greek yogurt- plain nonfat works best for this recipe
  • Garlic- both fresh or powder work but if you’re using it fresh, make sure it is finely minced
  • Za’atar seasoninga great blend of different herbs
  • Lemon- a fresh lemon or lemon juice
  • Cucumber- I prefer seedless or the mini Persian cucumbers from Trader Joe’s
  • Tomatoes- I use cherry tomatoes in this recipe
  • Crumbled feta cheese- a block of feta can be cut into small cubes or even crumbled. I like the block of feta in brine because it stays fresh and moist.

FAQs and tips on making this Greek 7 layer dip with za’atar:

  • What can I serve with this Greek 7-layer dip? I used gluten-free crackers and veggies but this dip goes great with pita bread or pita chips as well. You can also serve mini spanakopita with this as an appetizer if you are having friends over.
  • Za’atar seasoning is important in this recipe. It’s in the name! I suggest getting some as it really does help with all the flavors for the yogurt dip. If you need to makeshift your own, you can combine thyme, oregano, and sesame seeds.
  • Can I make this in advance? Yes, you can make this in advance but I would keep all layers separate and assemble the layers when you are ready to serve.
  • Is the hummus supposed to be thick? You can add water, olive oil, or lemon juice to make the hummus thinner for the base layer if you wish. This is totally optional! If you do decide to add liquid to make it thinner, go slowly until you reach desired thickness.
  • Garnish! Be creative and add additional color and flavor with fresh herbs like dill, parsley, or mint on top before serving.
