These oven-baked crispy chicken wings are marinated in the most delicious yogurt sauce and this recipe is gluten-free and made with just a few simple ingredients and spices.
These are the crispiest chicken wings that are baked in oven! The skin is deliciously crisp and the wings are super juicy. Plus I love that you don’t need to fry them to get them extra crispy.
Jordan is the real wing professional over here. He makes them *all* the time. And these wings in a yogurt sauce are so amazingly delicious and tasty, they are going to be your new go-to recipe for sure. And you only need a few simple ingredients to make them including yogurt, spices, apple cider vinegar and some lemon! I do top them off with some crispy onion flakes for extra flavor and they turn out SO good from it! But that is completely optional.
I don’t even think these wings need to have a sauce for dipping because they are so flavorful on their own. But if you want to dip them in a sauce you totally can! These are great for football season or any appetizer day for that matter. Everyone loves these when they come over and ask for the recipe – which is why we are *finally* sharing it here on the blog for you!
Tip: let these wings marinate in the fridge for a bit before baking! So the flavor really comes together for at least 30 minutes, up to overnight.
What ingredients are in these yogurt marinated chicken wings:
- Chicken wings – we make a large batch using 2 lbs but you can make a smaller batch using 1 lb if you prefer
- Plain greek yogurt – you can try other yogurts too but I recommend something plain/unsweetened that’s a little tart
- Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, red pepper flakes and sea salt
- Apple cider vinegar – this adds some more acidity to the wings
- Lemon – freshly squeezed lemon is delicious
- Crispy onion flakes – optional for topping! I love adding them for extra flavor
How to make crispy chicken wings in the oven:
- In a medium bowl, mix together yogurt, spices, vinegar and lemon to make marinade
- Add the wings to a large mixing bowl and coat with half the marinade (reserving some for later) then cover and add to fridge for at least 30 minutes to overnight
- When ready to cook, preheat oven to 400 degrees and add wings to a large baking sheet (I line mine)
- Cook in oven for 20 minutes then flip and cook for another 20 minutes
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes then add back to large mixing bowl and toss in rest of marinade and sprinkle crispy onions on top if using and enjoy!
Tips for success:
- You can use any plain and unsweetened yogurt you want in this recipe. Typically I like to use a greek yogurt and it is creamy
- I recommend marinating these for at least 30 minutes if you can but you don’t have to if you don’t have to if you are limited for time
- The spice combo here really hits the spot and the wings aren’t too spicy at all so it’s a great mild recipe and the yogurt also balances out the spice. If you *do* want them with more spice, add some hot sauce to the marinade
- These are healthier than your traditional wings since they’re not fried too yet they’re extra crispy
- They only take 5 minutes to prep too before letting the wings marinate for a bit so very little prep work and effort is invovled
