This Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough recipe is packed with protein, it’s gluten-free and has no refined sugars. It’s incredibly easy to make and is such a delicious snack or dessert.
If you’re looking for a protein-packed snack that tastes like cookie dough, try this chocolate chip cookie dough recipe! Made with cottage cheese, vanilla protein powder and has the best dough-like consistency. Plus you only need a few simple pantry ingredients to make it. And it happens to be free of refined sugar and it is gluten-free too.
This is one of those snacks you are going to question whether or not is actually good. But I can grantee you will love this thick, creamy, cookie dough! It is a healthy snack, dessert and it tastes like cookie dough you are supposed to bake in the oven. Except it is more nutrient dense and packed with protein unlike cookie dough usually.
First you gotta blend your cottage cheese so there’s not big curds left. If you don’t the dough consistency will be off a bit, so I recommend blending if you can. I also blend it with the maple syrup and vanilla extract too. Then add in the flour and protein powder and you are set. You can eat this right away or add to fridge to set for a bit too.
Tip: double the batch so you can keep extra on hand! Such a good snack to have that satisfies your sweet tooth and is packed with protein.
What ingredients you need to make cottage cheese cookie dough:
- Cottage cheese – I don’t have a sub here as this is the key ingredient for the dough! But you could probably use a thick greek yogurt if you prefer to try that too.
- Maple syrup – this is the sweetener of the dough. You could use honey too if you wanted.
- Vanilla extract – this is needed for that cookie-like flavor.
- Almond flour – I haven’t tried subs here but almond meal could work too.
- Vanilla protein powder – I love adding this in for flavor and more protein. Not usually a protein powder girl but it works well here.
- Chocolate chips – measure by the heart! You can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate here.
How to make edible cookie dough with protein:
- Add the cottage cheese, maple syrup and vanilla extract to a blender and blend until smooth
- Add to a large bowl then mix in almond flour and protein powder and stir until fully combined
- Fold in chocolate chips and serve or refrigerate until ready to eat
FAQs on making cookie dough:
- Can you taste the cottage cheese? Nope! I’m not a plain cottage cheese person. Not into it but when it comes to use it into recipes like this, I can’t taste it.
- How long does this cookie dough last? 5 days or so in the fridge. But there is rarely any leftovers over here!
- Is this dough good for kids? My toddlers love it. But of course do what works for your kids. I love that this is a “dessert” but also is great source of protein for them too.
- My cookie dough is too liquidy, what did I do wrong? Add in more almond flour or protein powder!

Made mine with oat flour cuz I didn’t almond and it tastes pretty good! Popped it in the freezer to thicken up. But I saw the nutritional info and was shocked! Is it really that high calorie for 1 serving and this recipe makes 3??
Rachel
the recipe makes about 8-10! it just serves 3 people 🙂 i usually eat 2-3 pancakes per serving.

Just FYI, I used ricotta cheese in place of the cottage cheese because it’s what I had on hand. It turned out great. Very nice texture.

Looks good… can you use coconut flour? And can you make them into cookies?
Rachel
i don’t recommend coconut flour because it’s not a 1:1 sub. i haven’t baked these into cookies, but definitely try some of the other yummy cookies on my website.

Hi Rachel!
I am confused. And maybe it’s because I should be in bed instead of searching for cookie dough recipes at 1:25a. If the recipe is made as is and serves three how can one serving have 24 net carbs? Shouldn’t it be eight carbs per serving? I apologize if I am wrong. Math was never my star subject. Thanks.
Rachel
hi! i don’t list the nutritional info so i am not sure! also that is just the recommended serving based off how myself and my family ate it. you could enjoy less if you prefer!
