These 4-ingredient Magic Cookies are the easiest and most delicious healthy cookie-like snack! They’re vegan and gluten-free and a family favorite.
I am obsessed with these cluster cookies. These Magic Cookies are hands down such an underrated snack to make. You only need 4 ingredients and I love how easy they are to bake. Great to have on hand for a quick snack that is fueling but also satisfies sweet cravings for a cookie.
You will obsess over these clusters because the recipe is quick and easy, healthy and they are so satisfying. The crunchy texture and sweet and a little salty flavor is perfection in these cookie clusters. I think of it as a almond joy meets trail mix meets cookie!
Chocolate and nuts are a delicious combo and these clusters are a sought-after recipe. I cannot wait to hear what you guys think of them when you make them at home.
If you are someone who finds yourself digging for trail mix for that mid-morning or late-afternoon slump, you will fall in love with these cluster cookies too. I cannot wait to hear what you think of them.
What ingredients are in these crunchy trail mix cluster cookies:
- Cashews – I usually use raw cashews but roasted can also work for these
- Unsweetened coconut flakes – I love using unsweetened ones so it doesn’t add sugar
- Sweetened condensed coconut milk – about 6 ounces or so is needed. You need the sweetened condensed coconut milk or the recipe will flop and the cookies won’t stick together
- Dark chocolate chips – I love using dark chocolate here but really any chocolate can work! Even white chocolate would be great for these clusters
How to make these Magic Cookies:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a large bowl, mix together cookie ingredients until fully combined
- Scoop about 1/4 batter onto sheet to form cookie. Make sure the ingredients are pressed together then repeat for remaining batter (don’t worry about cookies spreading!)
- Bake in oven for 13-15 minutes or until just about golden
- Allow the cookies to cool for a few then enjoy!
FAQs on these Magic Cookies:
- What are magic cookies? Great question! These are my random crunchy cookie-like snack that I love to make. They’re trail mix-like with the coconut flakes, nuts and chocolate and they satisfy that crunchy snack craving and also a sweet craving in one.
- Can I use other nuts or ingredients? Within reason. I personally haven’t tested another recipe here but some easy swaps could be walnuts instead of cashews, raisins instead of chocolate chips. Do not sub the condensed coconut milk with anything besides condensed milk.
- What is the best way to store these clusters? In the fridge for 5 days or freezer for 2 months. I love having them cold. But you can let them come to room temp or warm up for a few seconds if preferred.
- Can I give these to my kids? I give them to my toddlers. As long as no allergies are involved, I don’t see why not.

These sound great, just what I need in the late afternoon! I am on a fodmap diet for my finicky stomach. So, I will have ro go with walnuts and only have 1 or 2 at a time because coconut shreds can be a problem. I will cut back on those. Along with needing to be gluten free, it can be problematic to feed me. I do have sweetened condensed coconut milk because I was trying to make no churn ice cream with it. Didn’t love it. Thank you for your great recipes!

These are deliciously addictive as well as being beautiful. I love magic bars and saw your IG reel. Plus I needed a vegan option to fill a container for a sweet friend. These fit both. I am so glad I set aside the ones for my friend already!
Quick note for others. I had leftover ingredients and thought I’d be slick and combine 1 cup coconut, 1 cup cashews, 1/2 cup choc chips and the remaining condensed coco milk to wrap things up. Well, that’s too much coco milk for the remaining ingredients and it spread all over my parchment and made my teen ask what happened to these ones 🤣. Sadly for my waistline, I found that I actually like that Caramelized coco milk that spread and am happily eating those uglier cookies too. DELISH

love it!!!

About how many cookies does this recipe make? The instructions say to “scoop about 1/4 the batter onto sheet to form cookie.” Is this a typo? Should it be “1/4 CUP of the batter?”

I can only find unsweetened condensed coconut milk. Would it be possible to add sweetener prior to combining?
Rachel
ugh – sorry to hear. I do think you need the sweetened one so it all sticks together. I don’t have recommendation on doing it with unsweetened condensed milk and adding sugar

Here is a great receipt for how to sweeten the unsweetened condensed coconut milk using honey.

Can i use regular coconut milk in a can or does it need to be condensed?
Rachel
it needs to be condensed or cookies won’t stick
Julie
Delicious!! Rather than baking these, i formed balls by tablespoons, and froze them. Omg they r good frozen!😱. Put the balls on parchment paper though

Amy
Do you think oatmeal could be added in?
Rachel
if you want to do half coconut half oatmeal you can but i haven’t tried! i would add oatmeal without leaving out something because the consistency will be off
Manuela
I couldn’t find coconut condensed milk so I used oat condensed milk and they came out great!

These are excellent. Made this week. I did use 3 different nuts because I only had a few cashews left. I used pecans, both slivered and whole almonds. I also doubled the recipe.

Any suggested substitute for the coconut?
Rachel
hmmm i’m not sure i haven’t tried, sorry!

I love cookies, and all baked goods lol. When I saw “4 ingredients” I had to try them. I used what I had on hand, which was regular sweetened condensed milk, a Tupperware of mixed baking nuts (slivered almonds, chopped pecans, walnuts, and honey roasted pepitas), mini butterscotch chips, and the coconut. These were absolutely amazing! I’m telling myself they’re healthy because I’ve eaten so many already! Ha! Two thumbs up, these are fabulous!
Rachel
love!!!

These are fabulous and so easy thank you! I’m planning on sending some to my son-do you think I should freeze the cookies before shipping? Does the freezer change the texture?
Rachel
thank you! i wouldn’t! unless you are shipping frozen 🙂
Barbara
They didn’t stay together
Rachel
did you use condensed milk? if you do they do stay together!
S Siftar
What can you replace the coconut flakes with if you don’t eat coconut?
Rachel
hmm i haven’t tried a sub and the coconut is pretty substantial!
S Siftar
I can’t eat coconut. Someone suggested dried fruit. I’m going to try that. Thank you.
Carla
These were absolutely delicious! For those just making them though, do not do what I did. I used an ice cream scoop (way too big) and next time I’ll halve the chocolate. A little too much chocolate for me. They “melted” a little around the edges and I don’t know why. I do know that whatever I make no matter what it is never looks like the pictures, but they were tasty, so if I have to eat them with a fork, so be it. Yum.
Rachel
love!!!

Is there a different but I can use in place of the cashews?
Rachel
hmm maybe pecans or walnuts?!
Myrna
I LOVE these cookies 😋.
Rachel
saw yay!!
Liz
Insane!! I used a mix of cashews and almonds. DELICIOUS
