My Mama's Best Ever Hamantaschen Recipe

So last night Jordan and I put Ez down and turned on our latest TV show craze (we are very exciting people) and immediately started talking all about hamantaschens. We came to the quick realization that we needed to bake some this weekend as we were craving them like crazy.

Naturally I called my mom and asked for her recipe because they are the absolute best.

I grew up in a home with tons of baked goods pretty much 24/7. My dad and I have a huge sweet tooth and literally every night we eat some sort of dessert. And usually during the day too. Our freezers are awakes stocked with different baked goods (shocker) and these hamantaschens are truly the next thing you guys will make too. Just in time for Purim this week or for no flipping reason at all.

If you make these – let me know what you think! I hope you love them as much as my family does.

What ingredients you need to bake the most delicious hamantaschens:

  • Softened butter – can likely use vegan butter too
  • Coconut sugar or cane sugar
  • Orange juice – we juiced a sumo orange – so good!
  • Eggs – I haven’t tried flax egg)=
  • Vanilla extract
  • Baking powder
  • Jam/filling of choice: I used raspberry jam + sprinkles
  • Flour – I used this organic all purpose flour – code RACHL. Gluten-free all purpose flour works too!

How to bake the best ever hamantaschen recipe:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar with a mixer until combined
  2. Add in the eggs, orange juice and vanilla extract and mix again until fully combined
  3. Mix in the baking powder and flour to form the dough
  4. Form the dough into a thick circle and wrap it in plastic wrap and add to fridge for at least 2 hours (or overnight)
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line 2-3 baking sheets with parchment paper
  6. Roll the chilled dough onto a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick
  7. Cut out circles about 3 inches in diameter (I used a large drinking glass)
  8. Place a teaspoon of filling into the center of each circle
  9. Fold up the edges to form a triangle and pinch together edges firmly
  10. Add to the baking sheet and bake in oven for 12-15 minutes
  11. Allow the cookies to cool for a few then enjoy!
