sheet pan taco bake

This quick and easy sheet pan taco recipe is a family staple! Kind of reminds me of a crunchwrap from Taco Bell but with a few simple and healthier tweaks to it. This dish is packed with flavor and it’s incredibly easy to make. You only need tortillas, cheese, salsa and your go-to ground meat to make it.

After sharing my Sheet Pan Quesadillas and seeing how much you guys love that recipe, I knew I wanted to make another easy Mexican-inspired dish to whip up in your kitchen.

And these sheet pan tacos are just it and they’re incredibly easy to make. You just layer the tortillas on the bottom then add some ground meat on top, cheese and salsa then more tortillas. You can customize it to add any other toppings or things you want too like guacamole, sour cream, or anything! Plus these are super kid-friendly if you leave out anything spicy in the dish.

Tip: use anything you want inside the taco bake! Any ground meat, peppers and cheese plus your favorite taco toppings.

What ingredients you need to make sheet pan taco bake:

  • Ground meat of choice – I usually use turkey, chicken or beef, whatever you have on hand
  • Bell pepper – either red, orange, yellow or green all work!
  • White onion – white onion or sweet onion works best here
  • Garlic – I like to cook the meat in garlic along with the onion and pepper
  • Chunky mild salsa – or use spicy if you want this on the spicier side!
  • Shredded cheddar, manchego or Mexican-blend cheese – any cheese works for this that you want. Those are my top 3 choices to use for flavor and cheesiness
  • Gluten-free tortillas – you can use any tortillas you want but I usually use almond flour tortillas

How to make sheet pan tacos:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. In a large 12” skillet over medium heat, cook onion, garlic, pepper and meat (feel free to add in any taco seasonings you want too)
  3. On a 9×13 inch baking sheet, place 6 tortillas across sheet then sprinkle meat mixture
  4. Spread salsa across the meat then sprinkle the cheese on top
  5. Add more tortillas on top to full cover and bake in oven for 25 minutes (I lke to broil for 1 minute or so at the end)
  6. Remove and allow the taco bake to stand for 5 minutes
  7. Serve warm with sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes any of those traditional accompaniments!

Tips for success:

  • This is a family-friendly meal that is perfect for taco night except you make one giant taco instead of the fixings for a bunch of individual tacos. Much easier and it’s made on a baking sheet
  • You can customize this recipe to include your favorite taco fillings and fixings too
  • Next time you are craving Taco Bell and the crunchwrap – whip this up!! You’ll have something healthier and still absolutely delicious
  • This is a perfect party-pleasing meal for a crowd for Super Bowl, family game night, Cinco de Mayo, tailgates, anything!
  • In the event you have leftover, reheat in oven, stovetop or in microwave!
