Can you believe how much these Chocolate Covered Strawberries actually look like turkeys?! I cannot get over it. They are so cute and festive and my kids are still talking about them.

This recipe is not my own idea and something I have seen online for a couple of years now. I have no idea who started this but whoever did – bravo because they are so cute and a must try to Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is usually filled with pies, crisps and all of the things. There isn’t much fruit going on or kid-centric recipes. But these cute turkeys are great for a no-bake option and they can be a healthier dessert idea to serve that has some fruit in it.

These are also a great recipe to prep ahead of time so if you want to get a head start on Thanksgiving, these can stay good in fridge for about 3 days or so.

What ingredients you need to make Chocolate Covered Strawberry Turkeys:

  • Large strawberries – I don’t recommend using frozen strawberries. Please use fresh strawberries for these! Also the ones with the pointier tip work best shape-wise
  • Mini marshmallows – please don’t use large marshmallows as they won’t work
  • Pretzel sticks – I used gluten-free ones but any pretzel sticks work
  • Dark chocolate chips – you can also use milk chocolate or semi-sweet too
  • White chocolate chips – the tip of the legs are optional but I love this for aesthetic

How to make strawberry turkeys:

  1. Rinse and pat the strawberries dry and set aside
  2. Stick popsicle sticks or bamboo sticks in the top of strawberries
  3. Break off about 1/4th of the top of the pretzel sticks off (otherwise they’ll be too long)
  4. Melt chocolate chips in microwave or stovetop then dip the side of the marshmallow into chocolate and press onto each side of strawberry and hold for 10-15 seconds
  5. Repeat for remaining strawberries and add to fridge to set (don’t skip this)
  6. Once the legs are set, dip the strawberries into melted chocolate and shake off excess chocolate
  7. Place on parchment paper and repeat for remaining “turkeys”
  8. Place in fridge for 10 minutes to harden then melt white chocolate
  9. Dip the tip of the legs into white chocolate, allow the chocolate to harden again in fridge and enjoy!

FAQs and tips for making these chocolate turkeys:

  • What is the best way to store these? These hold up pretty well in the fridge for a few days in airtight container. I do think these are best within 2-3 days but they’re definitely make ahead friendly.
  • Can I use frozen strawberries for these? No, fresh is the way to go for these. I love a good frozen fruit recipe but it would be too watery and the consistency would be off.
  • What kind of chocolate works best? I used semi-sweet chocolate and dark chocolate. But you can really use any chocolate you have on hand or are craving.
  • Please don’t skip putting the strawberries in the fridge when noted below. This helps the chocolate harden and the turkey legs and such to stick on better.
