These chicken burgers are complete perfection. If you are in the mood for a burger but aren’t in the mood for beef, try these avocado chicken burgers. They are light, flavorful and so incredibly delicious. They’re made with ground chicken, spinach, avocado and spices. They are so moist and flavorful and juicy. You won’t even think you are eating chicken!

I make these burgers all the time. I like to prep them earlier in the week to have for meals all week long. They are made with just a few healthy ingredients. You can make them over the stovetop, the grill or even the oven. And if you want to make more than 4 patties, you can easily double this recipe if you want.

This juicy chicken burger recipe is a meal prep dream. They’re healthy, nutrient dense and are protein-packed. I love adding in some spinach for veggies here too. You could also do baby arugula if you want instead. But I highly recommend adding it in for extra nutrients.

You can serve these over a bun (gluten-free if needed), do lettuce wraps or serve it over a salad of sorts. I love having some sweet potato fries with it or broccoli for veggies on the side.

What ingredients you need to make these chicken burgers:

  • Ground chicken – or you can use ground turkey if you don’t have ground chicken
  • Baby spinach – or use baby arugula too if you want
  • Cilantro – fresh cilantro is sooo good in these but you can omit if you don’t love
  • Almond flour (acts as binder)
  • Garlic powder – or use freshly minced garlic cloves if you prefer
  • Onion powder – I like adding for flavor but if you don’t love onion flavoring, omit
  • Avocado – I like it more on the ripe side. Cut into small cubes then mix it right into the patties
  • For serving: buns of choice, butter lettuce, pickles

How to make avocado chicken burgers:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together burger ingredients (I like to mix by hand with meat handling gloves)
  2. Form into 4 equal sized patties and add to a plate
  3. Cover and add to fridge to firm for about 20-30 minutes (you want burgers cool before cooking so they stay together)
  4. Warm large skillet over medium-high heat and grease with oil or spray
  5. Cook patties for 5 minutes then flip (cooked side should be golden/browned)
  6. Cook for another 5 to 7 minutes or until meat reaches 165 degrees F
  7. Remove from skillet and enjoy with desired bun or sides!

FAQs and tips on making healthy chicken burgers:

  • Can I make these avocado burgers ahead of time? Yes! You can make the burger mix a day ahead and keep covered in the fridge until ready to cook.
  • Can I freeze these burgers? Yup! You can freeze before or after cooking for up to 2 months. To freeze, stack them between wax paper or parchment paper and add to freezer-safe bag. Thaw in fridge overnight.
  • I don’t have ground chicken, is there another meat I can use? Yup! Ground turkey is a great 1:1 sub.
  • Do I have to cook these over the stove? You can grill them or bake them in the oven. I’d bake at 400 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes. Just wait for them to reach 165 degrees F.
