These Easy Pizza Uncrustables are an epic twist on the classic uncrustable PB&J and they are a kid and adult favorite over here for lunch time! So easy to make at home and much healthier than store-bought.
These pizza uncrustables are SO easy to make guys. And everyone is loving a cheesy pizza-inspired sandwich in our home. They have been on repeat for both my kids and myself when we need a quick and easy meal. And I even sneak in some spinach to the sandwich. Or you can customize with your favorite toppings like pepperoni or any other finely chopped veggies you have on hand.
I like to grill these sandwiches on a skillet for a couple of minutes before eating. That way the cheese gets all melted and gooey when you eat it. But it is optional if you prefer not to too – totally fine too!
Tip: have your kids help you make these! They can pick out their toppings and help “press” the sandwich cutter into it.
What ingredients are in pizza uncrustables:
- Sliced bread – you can use any sandwich bread! gluten-free if needed. A softer bread works best here!
- Marinara sauce – any go to tomato sauce works great
- Chopped spinach – technically optional but so easy to put in with the sauce and sneak it into the sandwich
- Shredded cheese – any cheese you want! Mozzarella is our favorite here
How to make your own pizza uncrustable:
- Place the bread onto a flat surface and sprinkle half the cheese on one slice of bread
- Mix the tomato sauce and spinach together in a small bowl
- Next spread tomato sauce on top of cheese and sprinkle additional cheese on top
- Place other slice of bread on top then press the sandwich crimper into the center of the sandwich to remove crusts (I usually eat the crust when I make it)
- Grill the uncrustable in a lightly greased non-stick pan for about 2-3 minutes on medium/low heat
- Pack uncrustable into launch container (once cooled) or enjoy off the skillet!
Best tips for success making pizza uncrustables:
- Softer sandwich bread works best here but you can use any you’d like. Whole wheat, white, gluten-free, anything
- I love mixing the chopped spinach with the sauce first so it all kind of blends together and is easier to put into the sandwich and spinach does fall out
- If you want to make this the night before you can. Then either grill day of or serve cold. I usually put mine on a skillet to melt the cheese for 2-3 minutes on low heat
- If packing this in a lunch box, add any snacks to go with it your kids like!
