These Broccoli Cheddar Fritters are absolutely delicious. Crispy savory pancakes that are made with all simple healthy ingredients that kids and adults both love.
I love making these broccoli fritters for a veggie loaded snack or appetizer. They are a delicious combo of cheddar cheese, spices and broccoli and even if you don’t usually touch broccoli on your plate – these can make the non-broccoli fans into broccoli for once (myself included).
I love how easy these fritters are to make too. You don’t need a food processor to make the batter either. They take a few minutes of effort and I personally like to pan fry them a bit to make them crispy. But you could also cook them in the oven if you prefer.
When I serve these as a side, I usually like to pair them with my Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken, Healthier Crispy Paleo Chicken Tenders or my Chicken Meatballs. You can also pan fry from eggs and add them on top of the fritters too!
What ingredients are in these Broccoli and Cheese Fritters:
- Broccoli florets – steamed and you can use fresh or frozen
- Shredded cheddar cheese – if you can’t do dairy, use a dairy-free cheese
- Almond flour – I haven’t tried another flour. All purpose flour would likely work too and gluten-free flour
- Large eggs – I haven’t tried flax egg for this!
- Garlic clove – or use garlic powder if you don’t have cloves
- Paprika, sea salt and black pepper
How to make Broccoli Cheddar Fritters:
- Chop up the broccoli then add to a large bowl and combine with other ingredients
- Add about 1 tbsp of oil to a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat to warm
- Spoon roughly a 1/4 cup of batter into the pan and flatten with back of spoon or spatula
- Cook for 2-3 minutes then gently flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until crispy
- Repeat until batter is all used (don’t overcrowd the pan!)
- Serve while warm with desired sauces or condiments like honey mustard or ketchup
FAQs on making these broccoli fritters:
- Can you bake the fritters instead of frying them? Yes! After you form the fritters, add them to a baking sheet and cook at 400 degrees F for about 12-15 minutes (flip and grease halfway through).
- How long do these broccoli fritters stay good for? 5 days in the fridge in an airtight container. Or you can keep them in the freezer for 2 months. I like to reheat in the oven, in a greased skillet for crispiness or you can microwave too (my least favorite option because they don’t get crispy!)
- Can you use another flour? I haven’t tested one but I think an all purpose flour or gluten-free all purpose flour can work as well.
- Do you need fresh or frozen broccoli? Either works! As long as the broccoli is cooked (steamed is preferable) you can use either.
