This Baked Feta with Sesame Seeds is the ultimate cheesy appetizer. Oven-baked block of feta, coated in sesame seeds for a crispy and delicious way to serve and enjoy feta cheese!

This warm, creamy baked feta recipe is absolutely delicious, addicting and it is super simple to make. I bake it with some tomatoes and basil and a good drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and this appetizer is ready in just 25 minutes. Use your favorite bread, crackers or pita chips for serving!

I don’t really do many baked cheeses besides brie, but this baked feta is our new go-to cheese to make. It gets crispy, the flavors really come out with the olive oil and sesame seeds on top. And the leftovers make for a killer salad topping too the next day.

This recipe is going to swoon you over to a new baked cheese idea! It just works with flavor, texture and the simplicity of it makes you feeling like a 5 star chef who can do it all in the kitchen. I tend to get the feta block from Trader Joe’s but you can use your go-to feta brand for this. Just don’t forget to dab it dry so it isn’t too wet when you coat it in flour mixture and bake it.

Tip: roast the feta with tomatoes, add some olive oil and some basil for extra flavor! You can also add in some red peppers or other veggies too.

What ingredients are in oven-baked feta with sesame seeds:

  • Gluten-free all purpose flour – or use a regular all purpose flour if you prefer or aren’t gluten free.
  • Egg – I don’t have an egg substitute here – it is needed to make the feta be covered with the sesame seeds and flour
  • White sesame seeds – we use these to coat the block of feta fully!
  • Block of feta cheese – I usually get one from Trader Joe’s! Make sure to pat it dry before coating so it isn’t too wet
  • Tomatoes – this is technically optional but I love adding them to  make this a large appetizer with the tomatoes too
  • To serve: crackers, veggies, anything! You can also drizzle honey on top if you want too

How to make crispy baked feta in the oven:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and take out a baking dish (about 8 or 9 inch works well!)
  2. Add the flour, egg and sesame seeds into 3 separate shallow bowls
  3. Dry off the feta cheese by patting it try with a paper towel
  4. Gently coat the feta block in flour then egg then sesame seeds then add to baking dish
  5. Add the sliced tomatoes and chopped basil if desired
  6. Drizzle with olive oil and bake in oven for about 25 minutes or until sesame seeds are golden and cheese is hot
  7. Serve with desired crackers, veggies or anything!

Tips for success:

  • Don’t skip on drying off the feta block! I like to use paper towel to absorb any excess water so it isn’t too wet when coating in seeds and when it bakes. This also helps it crisp a lot
  • You can serve this with anything you want! Crackers, veggies, anything. I also love using the leftovers to crumble into salads (so good!)
  • If not gluten-free, you can use all purpose flour as well. I haven’t tried a grain-free flour in this recipe though
  • I used tongs to coat the feta cheese in flour then egg and sesame seeds. Just gently do it so the feta doesn’t break
  • Trader Joe’s makes a block of feta in a blue and white container that I usually use for this recipe
