In college, I used to get the homemade rice crispy treats every single day from the school cafe thing. They were real deal kind of rice crispy treats too. Think big chunks of marshmallows in them with butter and the favor was just insane. I used to put them into the microwave for 20 seconds so they would almost explode and they were SO GOOD.

This recipe for browned butter rice crispy treats though takes them to a whole new level. Plus we add in some sprinkles and frost them to make them funfetti cake-like. I am in heaven eating these as I even type this blog post for you guys. They are absolutely too die for. And perfect to make with kids or by yourself to feast on. Aka what I did when Ez was napping!

These are definitely more of traditional rice crispy treat recipe so if you wanted something healthier or no butter, I recommend these Healthy Peanut Butter Cup Rice Crispy Treats or these Peanut Butter Cup Pumpkin Rice Crispy Treats. They don’t have any marshmallows in them either. But when you want the real deal kind – what we are making over here is 10000% calling your name.

If you guys make these, let me know! I hope you love them as much as I do.

What ingredients you need to make these browned butter funfetti rice crispy treats:

How to make insanely good rice crispy treats with browned butter:

    1. In a large pot, add the stick of butter and melt over medium/high heat
    2. Brown the butter by continuing to stir every 30 seconds or so and warming over medium heat. This will take about 5 minutes and the butter will be darker in color and smell “nuttier” when it is browned
    3. Add in the marshmallows and melt over medium heat then turn off heat and add in extracts if using and cereal and mix well with spatula or large wooden spoon
    4. Fold in sprinkles if desired then either add the crispy treats to an 9×12 baking dish (greased well) or into muffin tins!
    5. Allow them to sit on counter to set for a bit then frost and enjoy
