When we were away in July, we ordered a chicken dish for Ezra at a restaurant. And he only ate half of it, so we took the rest home. And the next day when Jordan had it for lunch – he wouldn’t stop talking about it. Saying how it is the most flavorful juicy perfect chicken he has ever had. And we had to make it ASAP when we got home.

So our first Sunday back we were grilling a ton. And Jord made this chicken. He was in complete heaven saying how it is the best chicken recipe. And we made it again the next day to share here on the blog with you! Because I know everyone is always looking for new ways to eat chicken and not be bored. So this is a must try next time you pick up some chicken to make, but want to do something different!

I cannot wait to hear what you think of this!! Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram and Tiktok if you try it.

What ingredients you need to grill yogurt chicken:

  • Skinless chicken thighs – I haven’t tried with chicken breasts but I do think it would work well, just cook time may vary
  • Cayenne pepper, turmeric, paprika, sea salt, ground pepper
  • Plain yogurt – greek yogurt is a great option but really any plain yogurt works
  • Extra virgin olive oil – for marinating the chicken in
  • Lemon – lots of lemon juice here for flavor

How to make spiced grilled yogurt marinated chicken:

  1. Add chicken to a large bowl and coat with spices, yogurt, oil and lemon juice and mix well to evenly combine
  2. Cover and let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes (if longer than 30 minutes then marinate in fridge)
  3. Warm grill to 500 degrees F
  4. Place each slice of chicken on grill and cook for total 15 minutes, flipping every 3 minutes
  5. Chicken should be 165 degrees F when fully cooked
  6. Remove from grill and enjoy while warm with desired sides

FAQs on making grilled yogurt chicken:

  • What does yogurt do for chicken? Yogurt tenderizes meat better than other marinades. It is more gentle and slowly tenderizes them making the chicken extra soft after cooking too
  • How long do you marinate chicken for? At least 30 minutes and up to overnight. Depends on how much time we have. Usually we are more last minute so ours marinates no longer than 30-60 minutes (if that) and still is really flavorful and delicious
  • Do you cook the chicken with the yogurt marinade on it? Yes! Just add right on top and don’t forget to pour the extra marinade during cooking.
