I am absolutely hooked on making grilled cheese sandwiches in the oven. It is the easiest way to make multiple sandwiches at a time in under 10 minutes.

We are a huge grilled cheese family and this is how I am able to make numerous sandwiches at once so we can all eat at the same time. And it also is how I keep my stove somewhat clean ha!

What ingredients you need to make sheet pan grilled cheese sandwiches:

  • Soft-sandwich bread of choice – you can really use any brad you want but I love a softer bread or sourdough for this. And we typically use gluten-free so Jordan can eat them too!
  • Cheddar cheese – or your favorite grilled cheese cheese. I love using cheddar and it melts the best and gives that dreamy cheese pull too
  • Butter or ghee – softened butter used for toasting and flavor. Definitely don’t skip this as it will give the sandwiches that crisp you want on the grilled cheese
  • Any other toppings – you can keep these simple or add in some bacon, tomatoes, veggies, anything you want!

How to make sheet pan grilled cheese:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray
  2. Next spread butter on the outside of each slice of bread (amount of bread/butter will vary based off how many sandwiches you are making)
  3. Place two pieces of cheese on top of one piece of bread and top the cheese with the other side of bread (butter side up) and place the grilled cheese on the baking sheet
  4. Repeat these steps until all bread and cheese are assembled
  5. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes then flip the sandwiches and bake for another 3-4 minutes
  6. I then like to broil for about 15-30 seconds so it gets crispy crunchy then remove from oven, slice and enjoy!

FAQS about sheet pan grilled cheese:

  • The best type of cheese to use for grilled cheese are white cheddar, muenster, pepper jack, colby jack, swiss or a combo!
  • You can add in any other grilled cheese favorites here too like bacon, tomatoes, etc. I also add in spinach often for veggies
  • I think these taste best fresh and hot out of the oven and not leftover, but of course don’t let anything go to waste! It just isn’t a recipe I’d prep in advanced. If you do have leftovers than store in airtight container for 3 days in the fridge
  • To make grilled cheese crispy, you need to generously butter each slice of bread
  • I love serving grilled cheeses with soup, some chicken, a salad, anything!
